et me start with a book. Its slim, straight spine; the smooth pages fanning out, on every page bright colors burst forth beckoning the viewer to come closer... dive in.

Here and there letters lace the page, words marching forth in
one-syllable simplicity. Later the words will surround the images,
and later still they'll create them..

I no longer remember what the first book I encountered was; I only know that it marked something momentous. That first book and the many that would follow instilled in me a quiet and consuming passion for the written word.

This abiding love of books has shaped my whole life and made me what I am today: a bookbinder, a teacher, an archivist, a librarian, a poet, an artist, and inevitably, an unabashed bibliophile.
