Picturesque America

This profusely illustrated oversize volume from 1874 came to me in pretty poor shape. The back cover was detached and the front cover barely hanging on. In order to make it usable again, I dyed leather to match the original cover and pared it to the appropriate thickness so that it could be used to 'replace' the spine. In actuality, I kept the old spine to adhere over the new leather so that the repair would be less visible. But the new leather served as a means to reattach the boards and make the book functional once more.
